The PEI Mutual Education Trust was founded in 1985, PEI Mutual's centennial year. At that time, a donation of $100,000 was given to the Trust by PEI Mutual, with
additional donations totaling $82,000 being given over the next twenty-five years. In 2010, PEI Mutual celebrated 125 years of being in business. As part of this celebration
our Board of Directors approved a special donation of $125,000 to the PEI Mutual Education Trust Fund, enabling us to increase our scholarship amount from $500 to $750 per
recipient.
The annual interest from the Trust is paid out in the form of twenty (20) scholarships to all qualifying Island Grade 12 graduating students based on the number of
graduates from all qualifying high schools in the preceding year. Since 1985, the PEI Mutual Education Trust has awarded 540 Scholarships totaling $285,000.
Our scholarship program is administered through the Island high school system. In mid-May of each year, we send out application forms to each of the Island high schools, who in turn put together a selection committee and choose the winning
candidate(s). The two main criteria to be used in selecting winning candidates are financial need and academic performance.
Therefore, in mid-May of each year, please contact the appropriate representative at your high school (usually the guidance counselor) for details on how you can become a recipient of one of our PEI Mutual Education Trust scholarships.
We are proud to assist in educating today's youth.
